We appreciate your desire to either coach a team or volunteer. For the safety and well being of each and every child participating in ANY program with Tucker Youth Sports, Inc. dba Strong Side Athletics, Inc. -  a third party background check is REQUIRED - NO EXCEPTIONS. It is the policy of our organization to obtain and utilize background checks for screening potential coaches, volunteers, board members, commissioners, and/or any other position of authority within the Association.

Strong Side Flag Screening / Background Check Policy Statement

I. Statement

Criminal background screening on Board Members, Directors, Coaches and Team Managers will be conducted by a third party screening company as set forth in the By-Laws in an effort to protect the children who participate in organized sports and related activities associated with Strong Side Athletics, Inc.

II. Definitions

Strong Side Athletics, Inc. recognizes a Board Member as any adult who has either been elected or appointed member. A Director is any person who is responsible for the business, communication, and participation of a specific registered sport.  A Coach/Team Manager is any person who attends practices and/or games, working closely with the children and is involved in assisting the Director with his/her duties. The criminal background screening is mandatory, no exceptions.

III. Procedure

As a condition of becoming a coach or volunteer, an executed authorization form and a background check submission form shall be completed online and submitted to the private agency selected by TYS for conducting an individual criminal background check. The agency selected is Sterling Volunteers.

Only board members will review data obtained, which will then be processed discreetly. All information is strictly confidential and will not be made public under any circumstances. Reasons for being declined the opportunity to participate are listed below. In some instances, factors of time may be taken into account when considering coaching eligibility (i.e. length of time since disposition of certain offenses). 

The current Board will review background check information and determine coaching eligibility. The decision of this board is final and may not be appealed. All criminal history record information will be promptly destroyed at the end of each season.  All Board members, directors, coaches and team managers are required to notify the screening committee immediately following an arrest or conviction of any of the listed offenses. Any board member, director, coach or team manager, who while serving at Strong Side Athletics, Inc. is arrested for committing an offense as listed, will immediately forfeit his/her eligibility until disposition by the courts. A conviction of an offense as listed will result in termination of eligibility as stated in the policy.

The following is a list of offenses prohibiting an applicant from participation as a Board Member, Director, Coach or Team Manager under the Strong Side Athletics, Inc. Screening / Background Check Policy including but not limited to the following:

Arson

Assault (including aggravated and sexual)

Aggravated Kidnapping

Aggravated Robbery

Crimes against Children (including abandonment, abuse, endangerment, pornography, possession or promotion of pornography, enticement, solicitation, sale or purchase of, injury to, or indecency)

Criminal Nonsupport

Criminally Negligent Homicide

Deadly Conduct

Delivery of Marijuana

Incest

Manufacture of or Delivery of a controlled substance or dangerous drug

Any violation of a law intended to control the possession or distribution of any controlled substance or illegal drug

Indecent Exposure

Injury to Elderly or Disabled

Intoxication Manslaughter

Kidnapping

Manslaughter (voluntary or involuntary)

Murder

Obscenity

Prohibited Sexual Conduct

Prostitution (including promotion of, aggravated promotion of)

Public Lewdness

Rape

Sexual Abuse

Marijuana Possession*

DWI /DUI*

Theft**

*If a first offense and not currently under probation — eligible.

Two or more violations have occurred or currently on probation — ineligible.

**Eligibility dependent upon the severity and length of time since offense occurred.
